Gail A. Shafer-Crane, Ph.D., O.T.R., Certified Hand Therapist,
President Dr.
Shafer is a 1971 graduate of Western Michigan University
with a Bachelors of Science in Occupational Therapy, a
1988 graduate of Western Michigan University with a Masters
of Public Administration, and was awarded a Doctorate in
Philosophy by the Michigan State University College of
Human Medicine in 2002. Her treatment experience as an OT
includes specializations in physically and mentally impaired children
and adults, splinting and adaptive equipment fabrication, cardiac
and pulmonary rehabilitation, and hand therapy. She was certified
as a hand therapist in 1991 by the Hand Therapy Certification
Commission. Dr. Shafer is an active member of the American
Society of Hand Therapists, the American Academy of Anatomists,
and the American Occupational Therapy Association.
ARM Assessment-Rehabilitation-Management, Inc.
was founded by Dr. Shafer in 1988. It has grown from a hand therapy
private practice to a general orthopedic outpatient facility.
Dr. Shafer founded the Hand Institute of Michigan in 2003 to serve
educational and service needs in the central northern United States
and Canada.
Bachu Franklin, RPT
Franklin is a 1975 graduate of the
Christian Medical College and Hospital in Vellore, India. He immigrated
from India and obtained a temporary therapy license in 1993 and
then received his Michigan State Therapy License in 1994. He has
been a senior therapist with ARM Assessment-Rehabilitation-Management,
Inc. since 1996. He has completed continuing education courses
through Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Robin E. Kustasz, OTR,
Certified Hand Therapist
Robin is a 1988 graduate of Wayne
State University with a Bachelors of Science in Occupational
Therapy. She received her certification as a Certified
Hand Therapist from the Hand Therapy Certification Commission
in 1995. She has been a senior therapist with ARM Assessment-Rehabilitation-Management,
Inc. since 1995. She is also certified in neuro-developmental
treatment. She has been actively involved in the American Society
of Hand Therapists and has attended numerous courses in hand
therapy and manual therapy techniques.
Adrian Woodside, PT, M.S
Adrian is a 1993 graduate of Queen's
College in Glasgow, Scotland with a Masters of Science
in Physiotherapy. He immigrated to the United States in 1994
and obtained a Michigan State license as a Physical Therapist
in 1995 and now specializes primarily in manual medicine. Adrian
has been a therapist with ARM Assessment-Rehabilitation-Management,
Inc. since 2001. Prior to joining our staff, he worked for Sparrow
Hospital and the Detroit Medical Center.
Curtis P. Wood, OTR, NSCA-CPT
Curtis is a 1999 graduate of Eastern
Michigan University with a Bachelors of Science in Occupational
Therapy. He received his certification as a Personal Trainer
from the National Strength and Conditioning Association
in 2002. Curtis has been a staff therapist with ARM Assessment-Rehabilitation-Management,
Inc. since May of 2000, with specialized focus on Hand Therapy,
Evaluation, Work Hardening Therapy (preparing patients for return
to work), and Functional Capacity Evaluations.
Past employment experiences in fast food, graphic arts, printing,
landscaping and automotive part manufacturing provide a broad
base of occupational knowledge, which is utilized for improved
understanding of patient needs and improved therapeutic outcomes.
Matthew W. Oakes, M.S, OTR
Matthew is a 1998 graduate of
Grand Valley State University with a Bachelors of Health
Science, and a 2001 graduate of Grand Valley State University
with a Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy. Matthew
has been a staff therapist with ARM Assessment-Rehabilitation-Management,
Inc. since April of 2003. Prior to joining our staff he worked
at Sparrow Hospital in acute care rehabilitation.
Andrea Nebbeling, PTA
Andrea is a 2001 graduate of Davenport
University with an Associates Degree in Applied Science.
She has experience as a Massage Therapist, and has been trained
in Manual therapy techniques such as Craniosacral, Muscle Energy
and Myofascial techniques. Andrea has been part of the ARM Assessment-Rehabilitation-Management,
Inc. staff since March of 2002.
Jill E. Mayor, PTA
Jill is a 2000 graduate of Davenport
University with an Associates degree in Applied Science.
She has a background as a Massage Therapist and is also trained
in Manual Therapy techniques such as Muscle Energy. Jill has been
part of the ARM Assessment-Rehabilitation, Inc. staff since February
2003. Jill is great!
